I’m Isabelle McRae. I founded IM Consulting in 2021 in London. We provide strategic fundraising, research management, and language services to social impact organizations and government bodies.
Over the past decade, I have worked between the United States, United Kingdom, Turkey, Chile, the Caucasus, and Germany. Consulting for world-renowned international development organizations, think tanks, governments, and universities, I started to notice common themes: many organizations struggled to increase their income and raise their profile. Growth was often stifled by poor technical and interpersonal skills, and narrow, short-term thinking.
I could help with that.

Alongside my work with IM Consulting, I serve as the Director of Restart Initiative, an organization which promotes economic connectivity in the Caucasus, and am the Development Consultant for the Centre for Geopolitics at Cambridge University. I am based in London but travel extensively for work in the US, Europe and Eurasia.

I didn’t have a traditional path to entrepreneurship. I grew up in a rural corner of the United States, and had an unquenchable curiosity about the world, fueled by an early obsession with learning languages. I found my calling in travels to Turkey, Central Asia and South America. Over time, and with a variety of training, I transmuted my passion for culture and politics into an international consulting business.
Working comfortably in 5 different languages, I bring a strong sense of versatility and energy to my projects. From directing Turkish and Azerbaijani language programs for US Departments of State and Defense, to designing refugee livelihood projects for humanitarian organizations, investigative corruption research in Latin America, translation for political leaders, and development and research management at Cambridge University and the London School of Economics, I enjoy leading dynamic projects that further social impact goals.
I hold a Master’s in Conflict Studies with Distinction from the London School of Economics and a BA summa cum laude in International Affairs (Hons) and a Minor in Turkish Language and Politics from Portland State University. I am an active member of various professional associations, and publish and speak frequently on politics in the Middle East and the Caucasus, international relations, and women in entrepreneurship.
