Act One — Point of view

Eurasia is not a risk
to be managed.
It is an opportunity

to be understood.

“Eurasian markets represent a new frontier — yet they require deep insight, personal connections, and an understanding of how business is done culturally and bureaucratically.”

Most analysis of this region treats political risk as a checklist — sanctions exposure, regulatory uncertainty, headline conflict. It misses the point entirely. The South Caucasus, Central Asia, and Turkey are not interchangeable emerging markets. Each operates according to its own logic: its own relationship between state and business, its own conflict histories that shape every negotiation, its own informal networks that determine whether deals close or quietly disappear.

Domestic risks cannot be read in isolation. A regulatory change in Baku is inseparable from the post-war reconstruction dynamic in the South Caucasus. A partnership opportunity in Almaty sits within a regional reorientation driven by the war in Ukraine and China’s expanding economic footprint. Understanding these markets means understanding the layers — and being willing to do the work that generic consultancies consistently skip.

That is what I have spent over a decade building: the regional depth, the personal relationships, and the analytical framework to help organisations move in Eurasia not just safely, but with genuine confidence.

Act Two — How I Work

High-touch.
Select clients.
Real access.

I work with a select group of clients in a high-touch capacity — as an adviser and guide to entering and operating in these growing, complex markets. This is not a volume practice. I take on a limited number of engagements at any one time so that every client receives senior attention, not delegation.

The relationship works because I bring more than analysis. I bring access — to networks, to relationships, and to the kind of contextual knowledge that only comes from sustained, personal engagement with a region over many years.

Act Three — Background

Built over a decade.
Still in the field.

I am a political risk and strategic intelligence adviser specialising in Eurasia — the South Caucasus, Central Asia, and Turkey. Alongside my independent practice, I am Co-Founder and Director of Cambridge Strategic Simulations, a Cambridge Enterprise spinout, and Senior Adviser at LAVAL Consultations covering Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan.

I lead the Economic Connectivity Armenia-Azerbaijan Dialogue Series in partnership with the Hertie School — one of the few track-1.5 dialogue processes focused on economic normalisation in the South Caucasus. I have spoken at the Munich Security Conference, NATO’s Civil-Military Foresight Conference, and COP29, and my work has been published by Routledge.

Before this practice, I worked as a DOJ-qualified interpreter across IRS, DHS, Interpol, and NASA — an experience that shaped how I think about precision, context, and the gap between what is said and what is meant.
